Kevin Yu birdied the 8th to reach 5-under par and join Jordan Smith at the top of the Wyndham Championship. Yu has made five birdies through eight holes, and his move from second into the lead turns the early pace into a two-man tie rather than Smith’s solo advantage.

Beau Hossler reached 3-under par through five holes and climbed from tied 10th into a share of fourth. Birdies at the 2nd, 4th and 5th have quickly put him two shots behind Jordan Smith, giving Hossler an early place in the leading pack.

Alex Fitzpatrick supplied the biggest burst in this update, making eagle at the 15th to jump from even par to 2-under par. Starting on the back nine, he is through his sixth hole today and has rocketed from tied 26th into a tie for seventh.

Kevin Yu birdied the 5th to get to 3-under par and vault from tied seventh into a share of third. Through five holes, he has already made birdies at the 2nd, 3rd and 5th, putting him three shots behind Jordan Smith’s lead.

Mac Meissner birdied the 16th to reach 2-under par and join the group tied for fifth, three shots off the early lead. Through his seventh hole today after starting on the back nine, Meissner has made consecutive birdies at the 15th and 16th.

Tom Hoge’s birdie at the 16th lifted him to 2-under par and into a share of fifth, three strokes behind the lead. Starting on the back nine, he is through his seventh hole today and has birdied two of his past three holes after a bogey at the 14th.

Adam Schenk birdied the 5th to reach 2-under par and move into a share of fifth, three shots behind Jordan Smith’s early lead. He has birdied the 4th and 5th, giving his opening round quick momentum through five holes.

Kevin Yu birdied the 3rd to reach 2-under par through three holes, moving from sixth into a tie for fifth. It is an early foothold near the front of a crowded board, though Jordan Smith’s 5-under-par start remains three shots ahead.

Aldrich Potgieter birdied the 2nd to reach 1-under par through two holes, climbing from a tie for 12th into a share of fourth. That quick start places him in the top five alongside a crowded group, though Jordan Smith is already four shots ahead.
